The Distinguished Toastmaster award is the highest award Toastmasters International bestows. The DTM recognises a superior level of achievement in both communication and leadership.

The Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) award represents the highest level of educational achievement in Toastmasters.

This leadership project, called a DTM project, requires members to create and implement a project of their own design, in which they demonstrate the skills and expertise they have gained. Many members, however, go beyond just completing the requirements so they can check off a box and move on.

For many members, achieving the Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) award is a highlight of their Toastmasters journey. The award represents the highest level of educational achievement in the organization, and was first awarded 51 years ago, in March 1970.

To earn the DTM, you are required to: Complete two learning paths. Serve as a club officer for two six–month terms or one annual term, participate in the preparation of a Club Success Plan, and participate in a District-sponsored Club Officer Training. Serve a complete one-year term as a District leader.

Throughout its history, Toastmasters has served over four million people, and today the organization serves over 364,000 members in 145 countries, through its 16,200 member clubs.

Quite the contrary: Toastmasters is not a secret club to prepare and present pretty speeches, but is instead a training platform for going out into the “real world” and benefiting from your improved communication and leadership skills.

Less than 1% of all Toastmasters ever achieve their DTM. The DTM award is the greatest honor that can be earned by a member of Toastmasters International.
