Alphabet books might teach the appearance of the letters – what each letter looks like. They might teach the names of the letters and their usual sequence. Or they might teach the sounds of the letters.

ALPHABET BOOK REPORT This is a different type of book report where students create an alphabet book which will contain one page for each letter, except X.

Usually have a consistent and predictable pattern on each page. Include words that begin with each letter of the alphabet. Include illustrations or photographs to reinforce the text. Sometimes have a theme or topic.

ABC books are usually intended for very young children, who are just beginning their journey to literacy. These type of books typically show the letters of the alphabet with corresponding words and pictures of things that begin with the given letter.

Objects should be easily identifiable. Illustrations, whether drawings or photographs, should be consistent with the theme of the book if a specific theme is presented. The typeface should be clean, rather that ornamented to the point of making the letter of the alphabet difficult to identify.

Alphabet books help children name letters, and they help children identify the different phonetic sounds a letter makes. In addition, these books illustrate that certain objects are associated with certain letters.

ABC books are great fun for children from birth up until the age of about five. But the age group that really, really, REALLY loves ABC books is the 2-4-year-olds.

All you need to do is write out all 26 letters of the alphabet. Then, brainstorm different people, places, and things that start with each letter of the alphabet. Since you are making the book for a young child, you want to choose kid-friendly words and photos, such as “B for Ball” or “D for Daddy.”
