The Domestic Renewable Heat Inventive (DRHI) scheme is a government financial incentive scheme to encourage consumers in in England, Wales and Scotland to switch to renewable heating systems. The scheme closed at midnight on 31 March 2022.

Should I apply for the scheme before or after I my renewable heating system? You can only apply for the Domestic RHI after your renewable heating system has been installed.

Applicants who commissioned their eligible heating system on or after 1 March 2019 can now apply for accreditation to the RHI scheme. Applications that have been unable to comply with the 12-month submission rule can now re-apply until the scheme ends on 31 March 2022.

To be eligible for the RHI it has to have been installed within the last 12 months. That means no more than 12 months between the date of installation on that certificate, and the date on your application. The heat pump itself cannot be an air-to-air heat pump, these are not supported.

The UK Government's domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) scheme was available for properties in England, Scotland or Wales. Under the scheme, successful applicants receive quarterly cash payments over seven years for an installed eligible renewable heating technology.

Property Ownership - You must own or occupy the eligible domestic property. Registered social and private landlords can also apply but landlords need to be aware of additional information before making an application. Property requirements - it must have a domestic Energy Performance Certificate (EPC).

At current rates of RHI this means: the limit for ASHP installations is 20,000 kWh – up to £1,348 a year for 7 years = £9,441. the limit for biomass boilers is 25,000 kWh – up to £1,720 a year for 7 years = £12,040. and the limit for GSHP installations is 30,000 kWh – up to £4,573 a year for 7 years = £32,011.
