Get Elevator Cleaning Checklist

In the Machine Room Test the smoke detector and fire alarm system. Check oil levels and ensure all systems are properly lubricated. Examine electrical wiring for signs of fraying or defects. Make sure there is adequate headroom for technicians. Remove anything that interferes with access to the equipment.

Wipe the ceiling and lights with a damp cloth followed by a dry cloth. Clean the mirrors and step back and check the surface for streaks. Wipe button with a damp duster, Don't spray cleaning solution on buttons as this may damage them. Dust around edges in the elevators. Mop floor-eliminating stain.

Hard/Non-Porous Surfaces – Wall Panels, Doors, Handrails Before disinfecting, use soap and water to remove dirt and grime. Use cleaning solvents per the manufacturer's recommendation and consult your elevator service provider to be sure the products are safe to use — this is especially important for electrical areas.

Bacteria and dirt can hide and be invisible. Shoes can transfer dirt on the lift's flooring. Lift users' hands can leave marks on the handrails, and grime can hide on the surface of the buttons. Regular cleaning of a lift should be based on lift usage, with a weekly once at the minimum.

If your elevator has carpeted floors, we recommend using a brush and vacuum to clean them. We also recommend using a powerful cleaner that can prevent elevator passengers from tracking dust, dirt, and grime out of the elevator. As for steel floors or tiled floors, clean and polish them using a neutral cleaner.

For most elevator surfaces 70% alcohol solution is recommended. Using none abrasive, spray on cleaners with a disposable paper towel or microfiber cloth is recommended when wiping down your elevator. Spray cleaners should be applied to a clean rag or paper towel, then used to wipe down elevator buttons.
