MOOSE: The Loyal Order of Moose was founded in 1888 in Kentucky by five men who wanted a fraternal organization combining ritual and social activity. The name Moose was chosen because of the animal's size, strength and devotion to protecting its family.

Moose are valued for their meat and as a game animal. At least 7,000 moose are harvested annually in Alaska, amounting to about 3.5 million pounds of meat.
