The word 'Eurasian' was originally coined by the British during their rule in India, to refer to people born to a British and an Indian parent. Today, it generally refers to anyone of mixed European and Asian parentage.

The Eurasian community in Singapore includes people that belong to different religions and to no religion, but most of them are Christians, mostly Catholic, with religious celebrations like Christmas typically being an integral part of their lifestyle.

Baju Kurung Source Baju Kurung is a traditional costume as well as the national dress of Singapore and Malaysia. This traditional dress became fashionable in the late 19th century by Sultan Abu Bakar of Johar. Baju Kurung is a generic name given to the outfit for both male and female.

Eurasian Attire During the early 16th century, the Portuguese men married local Asian women, who were mostly Malay. With this maternal influence, Eurasian women wore the 'Baju Panjang', which looked similar to the 'sarong kebaya'. For performances, dancers continue to wear the Traditional Portuguese dance costumes.

Eurasians are persons with mixed European and Asian lineage. Most Eurasians in Singapore can trace the European part of their ancestry to the Portuguese, Dutch or British, while others are of Danish, French, German, Italian or Spanish descent.
