After two years of construction, the first high school building, known as Central High School, opened on Olive Street in July 1855. In 1848 William Greenleaf Eliot, the Unitarian clergyman in Saint Louis, was elected chair of the school board.

Aaron Lehde is Director of Bands and District Music Facilitator for the Ladue School District, where he has taught since 2002. His duties include conducting the Symphonic, Concert, and Jazz Bands at Ladue Horton Watkins High School along with the Seventh and Eighth grade Concert and Jazz Bands at Ladue Middle School.

The Ladue School District comprises all or part of 10 self-governed communities in St. Louis County, and encompasses approximately 19 square miles with a population of more than 27,000 residents. Currently, only 23% of district residents have students currently attending at least one of our schools.

The History of Ladue Horton Watkins High School The school opened in 1952 with 550 students in grades seven through twelve. Also, in 1952, blue and white were chosen as the school colors, and the Ram was selected as the team mascot.

Project Background As the Ladue School District neared completion of the $75,000,000 expansion and renovation of the Ladue Horton Watkins High School, the design and construction team had saved enough money to pursue the replacement of the athletics facilities.
