No student whose nineteenth (19) birthday is attained prior to June 15 shall participate or practice on any team. A student whose 19th birthday is on June 14, or before, is ineligible.

Athletes must be less than 19 years old on the September 1 preceding the contest or have been granted eligibility based on a disability that delayed their education by at least one year.

All eligibility requirements are set by the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF), the North Coast Section (NCS), the Vine Valley Athletic League (VVAL) and Justin-Siena. No student whose 19th birthday is on or after June 15th shall participate or practice on any team in the following school year.

SENIORS – Senior athletes are not eligible for Junior Varsity competition and shall not play on any JV team in any sport. Exceptions: Cross Country (see the Cross Country By-Laws for specific details) and by consent of the League Commissioner. Also see “Eligibility of New Students” above.

Simply stated, the Athletic Eligibility Transfer rule states: “Any student who transfers from one high school to another for any reason is ineligible for Varsity competition for one year from the date of enrollment at the new school in any sport that the student played at ANY level in the previous twelve months.

A. A student shall be enrolled in and have passed a minimum of 20 semester credits of new work (a make-up class is not considered new work) with a GPA of 2.0 or higher at the grading period which determines eligibility to be academically eligible to participate in extracurricular/cocurricular activities.

The California Interscholastic Federation is the governing body for ALL High School Sports in the State of California. There are currently 10 separate CIF Sections that govern sports under the umbrella of the California State CIF.
