To access a SDS, search for it either with a general search engine, such as Google, or visit the specific manufacturer's or SDS service websites listed on the Environmental Health & Safety's website: https://ovpr.uchc.edu/services/rics/ehs/chemical-safety/.

To locate the correct MSDS, always use the product identifier, not a shortened name that may be used at your workplace. Check that the name of the manufacturer and/or supplier matches the label as well. The MSDS and label may also display other identification, such as a product code or catalog number.

They must be written in English and contain: the name of the chemical (same as on the label) the chemical and common names of the substance. a listing of the ingredients. a statement of the ingredients that are known carcinogens or that present other known hazards. any specific hazards.

To obtain SDS, get them from the manufacturer. They may be sent with the chemical order (paper copy or e-mail attachment). Otherwise, go to the manufacturer's website and download it or request a copy.
