All requests for advance pay must be reviewed and approved by your commander or a higher authority, depending on how much money you apply for. The approval process helps to ensure service members are taking the loan for the right reasons and could require you to provide proof of need.

When making a PCS move, you can request an advance payment of up to 100% of the Dislocation Allowance (DLA), Mileage Allowance In Lieu of Transportation (MALT), and per diem amounts to which you are entitled. Upon arrival, the travel voucher must be filed at your new installation after the move is completed.

To document a member's request for, and subsequent authorization of, an advance of pay to meet extraordinary expenses incident to a PCS move. It is also used to inform the member of the purposes and restrictions of such advances, and to establish repayment schedules.

When making a permanent change of station or PCS, the military allows service members to request an advance of up to three months of basic pay to cover unreimbursed expenses.
