The Missouri Family Education Loan Program (MOFELP) is a private loan for students with financial need. The Missouri Family Education Loan Program is designed to provide borrowing options for Missouri students who have financial need but may not meet traditional credit requirements for private loans.

As of July 2022, MOHELA became the student loan servicer for Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF). Borrowers pursuing PSLF will be transferred to MOHELA upon the approval of their submitted PSLF form. Check the status of your PSLF form.

If you work in certain public service jobs and have made 120 payments on your Direct Loans, you may be eligible to have your loans forgiven. If some or all of your payments were not made on a qualifying repayment plan for PSLF, you may be able to receive loan forgiveness under a temporary opportunity.

MOHELA has an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau, but only one out of five stars from customers. Some of the complaints include difficulty getting in touch with customer service representatives and a confusing process for paying off loans early.

MOHELA will take over Public Service Loan Forgiveness “All borrowers enrolled in PSLF and all TEACH Grant recipients will remain with FedLoan Servicing until they are transferred to MOHELA later in 2022.”

On November 22, 2022, the student loan payment pause was extended until the U.S. Department of Education is permitted to implement the debt relief program or the litigation is resolved.
