Unified Carrier Registration (UCR) is a requirement for carriers and brokers transporting commercial freight. The Unified Carrier Report is the central component of your UCR permit registration, allowing you to calculate the correct amount of operational fees for your trucking business.

All drivers who transport cargo over state lines with a commercial vehicle needs a UCR. UCR stands for the Unified Carrier Registration program, which is mandated by the U.S. government. In other words, you must have a UCR in order to be DOT compliant.

Annual UCR registration is required for any Motor Carrier, Broker, Leasing Company, or Freight Forwarder that operates a Commercial vehicle weighing in excess of 10,000 pounds, placarded amounts of hazardous materials or transporting more than 10 passengers(including driver) across interstate lines.

Benefits of Complying with UCR Obviously, first and foremost, the major benefit of complying with UCR is to avoid fines and potential shutdown of your business by not being registered. But UCR uses the registration fees to fund safety programs, USDOT officer training, and state enforcement agencies.

UCR stands for Unified Carrier Registration program. It is a federally-mandated system for registering operators of commercial vehicles who are involved in interstate and international travel. This annual UCR filing must be renewed by December 31 each year.

Go to .ucr.gov and follow the computer prompts. The system is now enabled for all mobile devices. If you operated in 2021 and did not register, you must complete the appropriate year registration online at .ucr.gov.

The Plan oversees the federal UCR Agreement which requires individuals and companies that operate commercial motor vehicles in interstate or international commerce to register their business with a participating state and pay an annual fee based on the size of their fleet.

Because it is an annual registration, motor carriers are required to purchase a UCR each year.
