Get Preschool Schedule Full Day

While your little one has outgrown toddlerhood, you may find they're still not quite at that “big kid” stage just yet. Four year old's still benefit tremendously from a daily routine that's structured around play, learning, and rest.

Example 1: 6am: Wake up and eat breakfast. 6:30am: Get ready for preschool. 7am: Leave for preschool. 12pm: Pick up from preschool and snack. 1pm: Quiet time. 2pm: Play. 3:30pm: Snack. 4:30pm: Chores.

Schedules and routines are important because: They influence a child's emotional, cognitive, and social development. They help children feel secure and comfortable. They help children understand the expectations of the environment. They help reduce the frequency of behavior problems (e.g., tantrums).

Routines in preschool classrooms include things such as arrival time, bathroom time, clean-up time, naptime, and departure time. Many routines, such as meals or group time, are necessary and helpful to building a consistent classroom community.

At 4-5 years, children express many emotions, make new friends and play make-believe games. Preschoolers also enjoy numbers, tall stories and physical activity. Activities that are good for development include reading, creative play, indoor and outdoor play, turn-taking games and cooking.

Four-year-olds should ideally get between 10-and 13 hours of sleep, including naps. If your child has dropped the nap, aim for a 6 pm -8 pm bedtime. If your child still naps, you can move the rest closer to 8 pm. Make sure you've set up a bedtime routine for your child.
