All four Maryland signers of the Declaration of Independence had impressive homes in Annapolis, which still stand today.

Annapolis is best known as the location of the United States Naval Academy, which occupies 200 acres on the banks of the Severn. Next to the academy is St. John's College, chartered in 1784 and tracing its roots to King William's School (1696).

Toward the end of the Revolutionary War, the City also served as capital to the newly forming American nation when the Continental Congress met in Annapolis from November 26, 1783 to August 19, 1784. For many, Annapolis is synonymous with the United States Naval Academy. However, this world famous institution isn't even the oldest college in town. That distinction belongs to St. John's College, founded in 1696 as King William's School.

Annapolis is an incredibly walkable city. The architecture beautifully melds the centuries along the Chesapeake Bay. On both of our visits, we meandered in and out of alleyways always discovering a new treasure. While exploring we discovered the Historic Annapolis Museum and Store.

Annapolis doesn't always get the attention that the nearby cities of Washington, DC, and Baltimore receive - and for many residents, this is part of its charm. It's one of the best suburbs in Maryland - and it's been rated as one of the top Eastern coastal cities as well.
