PRS for Music is the home of the Performing Right Society (PRS). The Mechanical-Copyright Protection Society (MCPS) have a service agreement in place with PRS for Music who provide rights management and administrative services to MCPS. PRS pay royalties to our members when their works are: broadcast on TV or radio.

A member of MCPS (usually a music publisher, songwriter or composer) or a member of PPL (usually a record company). A musical work is a musical and lyrical composition (administered by MCPS for physical products, broadcasting and online uses and by PRS for Music for public performance, broadcasting and online uses).

MCPS Production Music Production/Library music companies produce music for licensing into soundtracks for TV, film, advertising, radio, trailers and other media outlets. Get a Production Music Licence.

There's a one-off membership fee of £100 to join PRS. There's a further one-off fee of £100 to join MCPS too, but you should only consider joining if your music is being released on a CD, DVD, LP or is being downloaded online.

Membership of MCPS is separate from PRS, and if you are not working with a publisher, you may need to consider joining MCPS if your works are used this way.

MCPS is the Mechanical-Copyright Protection Society, which collects royalties for works that are released by a record company, downloaded or reproduced onto a CD, DVD or LP. You may need to consider joining MCPS if your works are used this way.

MCPS collects and distributes mechanical royalties to songwriters, composers and publishers when their works have been copied or reproduced. Mechanical royalties are generated when a musical work is reproduced onto CD, vinyl, DVD and Blu-ray, downloaded and streamed or synchronised into a TV programme.

We recommend that you join PRS when your music is broadcast on TV/radio, used online, or performed live. Joining MCPS is recommended when your music is commercially released by a record company, recorded and used by a radio/TV programme, an audio-visual or multimedia production or used online.
