Depending on the type of policy, it can take as little as three to five days to receive a death benefit payment once you've filed a life insurance claim if you're a named beneficiary.

Life insurance providers usually pay out within 60 days of receiving a death claim filing. Beneficiaries must file a death claim and verify their identity before receiving payment. The benefit could be delayed or denied due to policy lapses, fraud, or certain causes of death.

We will inform you of our decision within 10 to 15 working days after the additional information was received. We will pay the money directly to the appointed beneficiary as soon as the claim has been finalised. If no beneficiary is appointed the money is payable to the estate.

The pay-out normally takes two weeks (10 working days) from the time your fully completed documents are received or your final fund contributions are received by the fund (whichever is later).

It can take up to a year for a retirement fund death benefit to be paid out, as the trustees must ensure that all financial dependents are provided for.
