The Fast Forward Program lets people continue receiving EI regular benefits while attending training to improve their skills during periods of unemployment.

To qualify for EI regular benefits, you must: in the last 52 weeks, have worked a minimum number of hours in work covered by the EI program. have lost your job through no fault of your own (you won't qualify if you were fired for misconduct or chose to quit when you had other options)

If you start attending training before asking for permission, you must still be available and actively looking for work to be entitled to EI benefits. If you weren't available and looking for work in the weeks before you requested permission, you won't receive benefits for those weeks.

A number of circumstances for quitting are considered just cause sexual or other harassment. needing to move with a spouse or dependent child to another place of residence. discrimination. working conditions that endanger your health or safety. having to provide care for a child or another member of your immediate family.

Students who qualify for Employment Insurance (EI) benefits and wish to receive EI benefits while attending school must be approved by Alberta Seniors, Community and Social Services (SCSS) before their studies begin. Some students may not be eligible to continue receiving their EI benefits while attending school.
