Once the term has started, students are not able to simply drop or “withdraw” from all of their classes. Virginia Tech policy states that a student must resign. This can be done using the University Registrar's Student Resignation / Withdrawal Form. These cases are commonly referred to as “official resignations.”

Often in most scenarios, it may not be good idea to withdraw your resignation letter after submitting it to your manager. Whatever the final decision may be, take the time to think about all the plans you had made after resigning, and work on seeing those plans come to fruition.

Students may choose to request a leave of absence not to exceed two consecutive major semesters (Fall and Spring) at a time. A student may request up to two (2) leaves of absence during their undergraduate enrollment at Virginia Tech. Students cannot request a leave of absence for a term already underway.
