Social Opportunities Fraternities are, first and foremost, social organizations. This means you'll have the opportunity to attend date parties (e.g., a themed costume party), spring formal, and be part of a group of men with connections around campus as well as in the professional world.

A fraternity sweetheart is a woman chosen by the fraternity's men to serve as the chapter's female face; she volunteers for activities and projects weekly and is also invited to a dinner at the house. The fraternity sweetheart is adored and treated with total decency and respect.

Fraternities and sororities were created as a place to foster academic, community service, and social initiatives that are unique to each chapter. Fraternity and Sorority life is based on the tenets of friendship, leadership, scholarship, and philanthropy.

The words frater and soror are Latin for "brother" and "sister" and used to show closeness between members. They also denote whether the group is for men or women. Sororities are only for women. Fraternities are only for men.
