Certified copies may be obtained from the Licensing Department in person, mail, email, or fax. Cost for certified copies is $5.50 each. Please complete the Request for Certified Copy of Marriage License.

The license is issued at the same time the application is taken; however, the license will reflect an effective date of forty-eight hours from the date of issue. The marriage must take place within six months of the effective date.

All records of marriages which took place in England and Wales will be held at the General Register Office (GRO). The GRO is able to carry out a much wider search in cases where details are not known. You can order a certificate online or call 0300 123 1837.

After the ceremony, the officiant will have you and your witness sign the marriage license and then return the paperwork to the city clerk's office for you. You will receive your 'Certificate of Marriage' in the mail within about 30 days from the wedding date.
