This new investment brings MRI services to St. Thomas-Elgin, making it easier for patients to receive the care they need closer to home. It is part of the government's $30 million investment in the 2021 Budget to support MRI services for patients and add new MRI machines to hospitals across the province.

If the patient is unable or unwilling to remove their non-ferrous/non-magnetic dermal piercings prior to scanning then scanning may proceed provided patients are advised to report any unusual sensations or heating in the implant area that occur during MR scanning.

For women, if possible, do not wear an underwire bra (the metal can throw off the magnetic field). Sports bras are usually good and we have hospital gowns to change into if necessary. The clasps on the back of a regular bra are not a problem, but avoid wearing bras that have metal parts on the straps.
