Get Taekwondo Belt Grading

The term Dan (단) is commonly used in Korean martial arts to denote a black belt.

The TAGB is not just concerned with its own development. That is why it has played a leading role in the reunification of British Tae Kwon-Do into one body. In 1988, the TAGB helped found the British Tae Kwon-Do Council (BTC), this being the only governing body of Tae Kwon-Do to be recognised by the Sports Council.

There are seven belts: white, yellow, orange, green, blue, brown and black. White is given to beginners and black is given to students who have progressed through the grades and have a solid foundation for learning the techniques of Tae Kwon Do.

WTF Taekwondo has nine black belt forms. Each represents a different aspect of Taekwondo development and level, and each has its own philosophical meaning.

To indicate intermediate steps towards the next rank, some schools (including Akula Taekwondo) add tape stripes at the end of the belt when students reach training milestones. The stripes track achievement of short-term goals. There is a stripe for each skill or trait to be learned for each belt rank.

Meaning of Black Belt. Black is the opposite to white. It signifies the wearers impervious to darkness and fear.
