Athanasian Creed, also called Quicumque Vult (from the opening words in Latin), a Christian profession of faith in about 40 verses. It is regarded as authoritative in the Roman Catholic and some Protestant churches.

The Athanasian Creed affirms the trinitarian doctrine that God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit are three distinct divine beings that share an essence, and are ultimately coequal parts of one Godhead.

A medieval account credited Athanasius of Alexandria, the famous defender of Nicene theology, as the author of the Creed. ing to that account, Athanasius composed it during his exile in Rome and presented it to Pope Julius I as a witness to his orthodoxy.
