Get Frankensteins Haunted House

There are two Burg Frankenstein in Germany. One is a Burgruine in Frankestein, Germany, another is a castle in Muhltal, Germany, near Frankfurt. This address posted takes you to the ruins. If you look at pictures taken above, you will see two different castles.

Once you're at the ruins, you get a good sweeping view of the town below, and the entrance into the castle is free. It's quite a small place, but there are a several stairs to climb around which makes it a little more interesting to explore.

The real Frankenstein castle is located in Germany. It sits along the Rhine River between the towns of Darmstadt and Gernsheim.

The ruins behind the literary legend Shelley herself was travelling through the Rhine region near the castle in 1814, four years before Frankenstein was published, but she never claimed the castle or Dippel as a direct inspiration. This hasn't stopped visitors to the castle from immersing themselves in the legend.

Much of Frankenstein 's story unfolds in Switzerland, the country in central Europe where Mary Shelley was staying when she began writing the novel. However, the novel ranges widely within Europe and across the globe.

The place is said to be haunted by several ghosts including Dippel and those he exhumed for his experiments. Dippel is said to haunt the roof of the chapel. The chapel is also said to be haunted by the last knight of Frankenstein, Philipp Ludwig who died at the age of 20.
