Pumping tests are performed during aquifer characterization to gain conceptual understanding about the system through diagnostic plots and to estimate hydraulic properties. Recovery tests consist of measuring head response in observation and/or pumping wells after pumping termination.

There are two general types of pumping tests: (1) step drawdown tests and (2) constant rate tests.

The sole purpose of pumping test is to characterize the hydraulic parameters of the water bearing zone in the subsurface environment by substituting the discharge and the drawdown measurements in the well (or/and piezometers) into an appropriate well- flow equation and calculating the hydraulic characteristics of the ...

In a pumping test, a pumping well stresses an aquifer by extracting or injecting water at a controlled rate. In a slug test, the imposed hydraulic stress is due to a sudden change in water level in the control well. In a constant-head test, the head or drawdown in the control well is not allowed to vary.

The end result of a pump test is an estimate of the overall efficiency of your pump and the cost of running it under the conditions of the test. The test may also give an indication of water well performance.

A pumping test consists of pumping groundwater from a well, usually at a constant rate, and measuring the change in water level (drawdown) in the pumping well and any nearby wells (observation wells) or surface water bodies during and after pumping (see Figure 1).

Pumping test was carried out after installation of casing pipes and screens and it comprises three (3) types of test; viz. step-drawdown test, continuous drawdown test, and recovery test. The step drawdown test was conducted prior to continuous pumping test.

Tests that are run between various sets of perforations in the same wellbore usually determine the vertical reservoir permeability. Multiple-well tests are more sensitive to reservoir heterogeneity than single-well tests (SPE-10042-PA). There are two types of multiple-well tests: Interference and pulse.
