Once you've learned that you need to apply for resource consent, you'll need to start gathering information so that you can prepare your application accurately. You will need to complete an application form. You can get the application form from your council or online from the council's website.

A building consent authority has 20 working days from the date the application for a building consent is received to decide whether to refuse or grant the application. A building consent authority may request more information about the application within 20 working days from the date the application is received.

After your application is submitted and you've paid your application fee, the process takes up to 20 working days. It may take longer if there's information missing from your application.

We will assess the effects and scale of your proposed development over a period of 20 working days. If your application is incomplete in some way, we will request further information from you.
