Key Club International is the high school branch of the Kiwanis International family, classified as a Service Leadership Program and more specifically as a Kiwanis Youth Program. Many Key Clubs are sponsored by a local Kiwanis club.

They are responsible for setting and monitoring the goals of the club, running club meetings, appointing committee chairs and delegating tasks as necessary as well as recruiting, training and retaining members and maintaining regular communication with the lieutenant governor of his or her division.

Joining Key Club in high school also looks fantastic on a college resume; it's the largest high school organization in the world (making it instantly recognizable to admissions officers) and is renowned for attracting students who value community service.

Key Club can be a worthwhile extracurricular activity to participate in because it offers valuable volunteer and leadership opportunities. Colleges do appreciate when students demonstrate commitment to community service and take on leadership roles within their activities.

Key Club members serve their communities in many ways, such as cleaning up parks, collecting clothing and organizing food drives. Key Clubs also collaborate with Thirst Project and UNICEF to raise money and awareness to improve the lives of young children around the world.

In an age where many teens write about volunteering in their applications, it is crucial to show colleges how your personal experiences make you unique. Simply typing “volunteering” or “Key Club” may not display the depth of your commitment — colleges want to know how service impacted you.

The employer won't know a thing about you except for what is on your resume. Adding experience in the Key Club in your resume automatically improves your chances of getting hired. Employers will instantly recognize that you've already gone through community service and volunteer work.
