There are only four U.S. states that currently allow conjugal visits, often called "extended" or "family" visits: California, Connecticut, New York, and Washington.

The offender's intended spouse will obtain a marriage license application form from a county probate judge, complete the form and send it to the offender for completion of his/her portion of the form including his/her notarized signature.

Today, only four states—California, Connecticut, Washington and New York—allow conjugal visits. (Mississippi, where Parchman is located, ended conjugal visitation in 2014.)

Male visitors will be required to wear shirts and full-length trousers. Females may wear trousers, or if a female visitor wears a dress, skirt or other similar garment, it may NOT be more than two (2) inches above the knees.

You must contact the Classification Officer at the inmate's current facility (see the Statewide Facility Directory for address information). Who has final authority on visitation? The warden at each facility has the final approval or disapproval authority for each visitation request.

Married inmates are not allowed conjugal visits with their spouses in Georgia and most other states. Only six states -- California, Connecticut, Mississippi, New Mexico, New York and Washington -- allow conjugal visits. Conjugal visits are also not allowed in federal prison.

A conjugal visit is a scheduled period in which an inmate of a prison or jail is permitted to spend several hours or days in private with a visitor. The visitor is usually their legal spouse.

To visit an offender in person at a Georgia Department of Corrections facility, you must be on their approved visitation list and schedule an appointment in advance. Normally, visitation occurs on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. An offender can request to add or remove individuals on their approved visitation list.
