Purpose of Form IT-221 Use Form IT-221 to determine any amount of disability income that could have been excluded from recomputed federal adjusted gross income based on Internal Revenue Code (IRC) section 105(d) as it was in effect before January 1, 1984.

A disabled person on SSDI or applying for SSDI cannot earn more than $1,470 per month by working. However someone who is earning SSDI can have any amount of income from investments, spousal income and any amount of assets.

Use Schedule R (Form 1040) to figure the credit for the elderly or the disabled.
