Foreign Service National employees (often referred to as Locally Employed Staff, LE Staff) are citizens of the countries in which the Department maintains diplomatic posts and consulates.

Foreign Service Officers are key interlocutors with foreign governments, engage with foreign citizens, and inform and influence U.S. foreign policy while working on issues surrounding the safety and security of American citizens wherever they may be, and advances U.S. interests abroad.

An employee evaluation, also known as a performance review, is a periodic appraisal of an employee's performance by their manager. It's an opportunity to assess the employee's progress, praise their accomplishments, and collaborate on goals to improve performance and help achieve company objectives.

Foreign Service National (FSN): A Locally Employed Staff employee (as defined below) employed using a Direct Hire Appointment at a U.S. mission abroad under Chief of Mission authority, or at an office of the American Institute in Taiwan, (Section 303 of the Foreign Service Act; 5 CFR 8.3).

The United States Foreign Service is the primary personnel system used by the diplomatic service of the United States federal government, under the aegis of the United States Department of State.

Consular Officers: Work to enhance border security and protect Americans who are traveling or living abroad. Economic Officers: Promote the U.S. in areas of trade and economics.
