The Congressional Record Index (CRI) serves as the index to the Congressional Record. When Congress is in session, the Joint Committee on Printing publishes the Congressional Record Index. In print, the Congressional Record Index contains both the index proper and the History of Bills and Resolutions.

Congressional archives consist of records and personal papers that document the history and activities of the United States Congress.

The Annals of Congress are a record of the United States Congress from the First Congress in 1789 through the First Session of the Eighteenth Congress in 1824. The Annals are a summary rather than a transcription, compiled after 1834 from newspaper accounts.

The Congressional Record is a substantially verbatim account of the remarks made by senators and representatives while they are on the floor of the Senate and the House of Representatives. It also includes all bills, resolutions, and motions proposed, as well as debates, and roll call votes.

The Congressional Record is a record of the proceedings of Congress. It is published daily when one or both chambers of Congress is in session and is available the following morning.

The primary ways in which the bound edition differs from the daily edition are continuous pagination; somewhat edited, revised, and rearranged text; and the dropping of the prefixes H, S, and E before page numbers.
