In South Africa, employees have a statutory entitlement to four consecutive months of unpaid Maternity leave. The four months' Maternity leave is compulsory for the birth mother, and can only be reduced if a doctor certifies that the employee may return to work earlier.

Fathers are entitled to 10 consecutive days unpaid paternity leave.

In South Africa, fathers are entitled to 10 days parental leave upon the birth of the employee's child in terms of the Labour Laws Amendment Act. Mothers are entitled to four months unpaid maternity leave.

The UIF benefit is between 38 - 58% of your salary (up to a maximum of R12478). For example: If your salary is R12478 or more, you will receive R155. 89 per day (about R4676 p.m.). You cannot receive more than this maximum amount.

Benefits are paid for a maximum duration of 17.32 weeks (121 days). (1) An employee is entitled to at least four consecutive months' maternity leave. (b) on a date from which a medical practitioner or a midwife certifies that it is necessary for the employee's health or that of her unborn child.
