In order to qualify for UI benefits you must be: Actively looking for work. Mentally and physically able to work. Legally authorized to work in the United States. Available to accept new work (for example, you do not have a personal responsibility that would prevent you from working)

You must be available for work as defined by law, during each week for which you are claiming benefits. You must make reasonable efforts to find employment each week. You may be excused from this requirement if you are participating in approved job training.

It also provides information concerning wages used, your weekly and maximum benefit amounts, and your length of eligibility. Generally, you are eligible to receive 26 full weeks of unemployment benefits over a 52-week benefit year.

Some states ask you to sign a sworn statement that you are actively looking for a job. Other states require that you make a certain number of job contacts per week and provide the contact information for employers to which you've applied.

Unemployment eligibility when you're fired Unemployment benefits are not available to all workers. Workers who were fired for willful misconduct are not eligible for benefits. CTDOL recommends filing for benefits even if you think you may not be eligible as applications are approved on a case-by-case basis.
