A standardized measure called a T-score helps your doctor compare your results. When your T-score is less than 60, it usually means you don't have ADHD. A score higher than 60 may indicate ADHD. And a T-score higher than 70 means your ADHD symptoms are more serious.

The ADHD Rating Scale-5 has been validated in children age 5 through 17 years [28]. The Vanderbilt rating scales were not designed for preschool children but can be used in children ≥4 years because the DSM-5/DSM 5-TR behavioral criteria for ADHD are the same for children age 4 through 17 years [1,2,29-31].

The scale is meant for children ages 6 to 12, but people in other age groups can use it, if applicable. Different forms are available for parents and teachers. Both forms screen for symptoms of ADHD and inattention.

The Vanderbilt ADHD Diagnostic Rating Scale ( VADRS ) is a psychological assessment tool for parents of children aged 6 to 12 designed to measure the severity of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) symptoms.

ADHD inattentive type: Must score either a 2 or 3 on six or more items in questions 1–9. ADHD hyperactive/impulsive type: Must score either a 2 or 3 on six or more items in questions 10–18. ADHD combined type: Meets criteria for both ADHD inattentive type and hyperactive/impulsive type.

The Vanderbilt Assessment Scales are used by healthcare professionals to help diagnose ADHD in children between the ages of 6 and 12 years old.
