Keeney Quad is one of the most popular freshman dorms at Brown University, and for good reason. It is centrally located on campus, making it easy for students to access all that Brown has to offer.

All first-year students — and 74 percent of all undergraduates — live on campus. First-year undergrads live with roommates in close-knit residence hall communities of 50 to 60 students.

Brown University has a total undergraduate enrollment of 7,349 (fall 2021), with a gender distribution of 48% male students and 52% female students. At this school, 70% of the students live in college-owned, -operated or -affiliated housing and 30% of students live off campus.

Quiet Hall This hall is by no means an anti-social environment; it is simply one in which its residents are more considerate to and respectful of the desires of their hallmates to stick to their own sleep, work, and study schedules. Quiet housing has two simple rules: Excessive noise is not permitted.

Each resident is supplied with: Bed frame. Bookcase. Bureau. Closet or wardrobe. Desk and desk chair. Mattress (36" x 80" - twin extra long) One recycling bin per room or suite. One trash can per resident.

Air Conditioners The residence halls at Brown are not air conditioned. Students are allowed to bring fans.

Robin Gore, director of Housing Operations for Pepperdine, said the costs involved with installing air conditioning in dorms would make housing rates higher. “To put air conditioning [in the dorms] would be a huge expense,” Gore said. “Students would then have to pick up that expense with the room rate.
