Accelerated Reader (AR) is a popular reading program used in schools. AR helps teachers track students' independent practice and progress with reading. It's not specifically designed for kids who learn and think differently. But teachers can use it to help guide struggling readers to books they can read successfully.

Ten percent of their grade will be the scores they earn on the AR tests. If a student gets an 85% or above, it goes in the gradebook as a 100%. Passing the test means they earned a 60% or a 70% depending on how many questions there are on the test. Students may not retake a test.

Students earn points by passing Reading Practice Quizzes, including the Teacher-Made Quizzes. Students also earn points for passing textbook Other Reading Quizzes (using the formula above) or for passing article quizzes (1 point per quiz).

In order to earn these points, students must complete the quiz. Earning a 100% on the book's quiz will earn the student the maximum number of points available. Earning below a 60% on the quiz will not garner any points; however, students may retake the quiz. AR provides teachers and administrators with flexibility.
