The Rock Eagle 4-H center, which is the largest such camp in the world, reflects the early period of the University's Cooperative Extension Service program development.

Georgia 4-H is all about exploring and discovering, encouraging and challenging. As a program of the University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences Cooperative Extension System, 4-H is part of the nationwide Extension network.

4-H programs are available in each county of Georgia through local 4-H clubs, 4-H camps, in-school and after-school programs. With the support of adult mentors, youth select from a variety of hands-on projects in which to research, learn, and compete.

4-H is open to all youth, ages 9 - 19. Cloverbuds (or pre-club) are youth in K - 3. Cloverleaf 4-H'ers are youth in 5th and 6th grade. Senior 4-H'ers are youth in 9th through 12th grade.

The university is the oldest institution of higher education in the state, incorporated in 1785 by the General Assembly of Georgia. The university, then known as Franklin College, did not have a site until 1801; its first class graduated in 1804.

The six 4-H centers around the state host events and summer camps. Rock Eagle in Eatonton is the largest 4-H center in the nation.
