The Alabama Health Services Seizure Safe Schools Curriculum is the school nurses training program that provides a framework for local school districts to implement the Alabama Seizure Safe Schools Act (Alabama Act No. 2021-76).

The Alabama Seizure Safe School Act permits unlicensed school personnel to administer pre- dosed rescue medication for seizures when the school nurse is not available. The selection of medication or dose of medication may not be delegated.

Teach family members and friends proper seizure first aid. Inform family and friends when to call for help (i.e., when your child's seizure should be considered an emergency). Have your child wear medical alert bracelet or necklace that says he or she has epilepsy.

Lincoln, NE, January 25, 2021 — The Epilepsy Foundation announced the introduction of the Seizure Safe Schools Act (LB 639) in the Nebraska Unicameral Legislature. This bill ensures that all school personnel will be trained to recognize and respond appropriately to students experiencing seizures.

Also tell them to do the following if you have a seizure: Clear the area to prevent injury. Position you on a flat, carpeted surface, if possible. Don't try to restrain you. Don't put anything in your mouth. Turn you onto your side if you start to vomit.
