Does CPT Affect OPT? Generally, your CPT will not affect OPT if CPT is authorized for less than 12 months of full-time work (i.e., more than 20 hours per week). If your full-time CPT duration is 12 months, you will not be able to apply for OPT.

Will working on campus affect my OPT? If you only work on campus during the academic year, it will not affect your OPT situation. So, try to get a job on campus so you can have some work experiences to brighten your resume or just earn some extra cash.

U.S. regulations do not explicitly restrict on-campus employment while participating in CPT. Therefore, I.S. recommends that students who wish to work on-campus while engaging in CPT should apply for part-time CPT and not exceed 40 hours of work combined between their on- campus work and CPT work.

International students cannot work off-campus in the US while they are studying without the proper work authorization. Curricular practical training (CPT) can be used by international students who want to do an internship that is integral to their academic program and gain valuable work experience.

The College Work Study Program (CWSP) is administered by the Department of Education and provides part-time employment for undergraduate, graduate and professional students who desire to continue their education but are in financial need. They do not need to be in a law or pre-law curriculum.

In ance with U.S. immigration regulations, students who engage in part-time or full-time CPT must still be full-time students during the academic year. They do not need to be enrolled full-time during official vacation periods (such as summer). Cost and Processing Time: There is no cost to the employer.
