The Department of Revenue prescribes form DR-123, Affidavit for Partial Exemption of a Motor Vehicle sold for Licensing in Another State, to be completed by the purchaser and furnished to the selling dealer or appropriate sales tax collection agency.

Florida sales tax is due at the rate of 6% on the $20,000 sales price of the vehicle. No discretionary sales surtax is due. Example: Sale of $20,000 motor vehicle to a resident of another state where the sales tax rate on motor vehicles is 2%.

The United States government, or any of its federal agencies, is not required to obtain a Florida Consumer's Certificate of Exemption; however, many federal agencies obtain the certificate to present to Florida retail dealers to document their tax-exempt status.
