A grant is a financial aid award that you do not have to repay provided you meet the eligibility requirements and have provided accurate information on your application.

The FAFSA is used to determine your eligibility for federal grants, state grants, Work-Study and loans. When students are not eligible for the federal Pell Grant, they may be eligible for the PHEAA State Grant. Students also have the option to apply for a Federal Student Direct Loan, which you must pay back.

A grant is a type of financial aid award that you don't need to repay, as long as you meet all of the eligibility requirements.

The basic eligibility requirements reviewed by PHEAA when it receives an application are: Meets criteria for financial need. Enrolled on at least a half-time basis in an Associate degree or Bachelor's Degree program and does not already have a Bachelor's degree. U.S. high school graduate or the recipient of a G.E.D.

How much can I receive? PHEAA determines the amount of a student's PA State Grant. The maximum grant for 2022–2023 is $5,260. Students are limited to receiving no more than eight full-time semesters' worth of PASG funding—or the equivalent in less than full-time status.

If you are 18 years of age or older—You must be a PA resident for at least the 12 consecutive months immediately preceding your applicable PA State Grant filing deadline excluding any time you are enrolled in a PA postsecondary school, if you came into or remained in PA for the purpose of attending a school or college.
