Wisconsin has a variety of rental assistance programs that are administered by the state of Wisconsin, local governments, and local community organizations. In general, these programs pay to a landlord a portion of a tenant's outstanding rent if the tenant is unable to pay their rent.

In order to ensure those most in need are assisted first, HUD requires a partnership with the Continuum of Care (CoC) and/or other organizations for direct referrals. For individuals or families who believe they may be eligible for the EHV program, please dial 2-1-1.

To be eligible for the program, a family's gross annual income must be below 50% of the Area Median Income (AMI) in Los Angeles County. Seventy-five percent of new admissions must have gross annual incomes at or below 30% of the AMI. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) determines the AMI yearly.

Public Housing and Housing Choice Vouchers (Section 8) To apply for either type of help, visit your local Public Housing Agency (PHA). Some PHAs have long waiting lists, so you may want to apply at more than one PHA. Your PHA can also give you a list of locations at which your voucher can be used.

The maximum housing assistance is generally the lesser of the payment standard minus 30% of the family's monthly adjusted income or the gross rent for the unit minus 30% of monthly adjusted income.

How long does it take to get approved for rental assistance once I am selected from the waitlist? Once you have been pulled from the wait list, eligibility determination should take about 60 days.

The Emergency Housing Vouchers are administered through a direct referral process. Local Housing Authorities are working with the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA) to obtain referrals.
