RL-31 is a tax slip filled out by your landlord, which allows you to claim the housing component of the solidarity tax credit. Any tenant or subtenant is eligible to receive this tax break, however, an occupant of a property is not.

To be eligible for this credit, you must file your income tax return and meet all the applicable requirements. To receive all the amounts you could be entitled to for each component of the solidarity tax credit, you must claim the credit by filing Schedule D of your 2020 income tax return.

RL slips are official receipts that you receive annually. They must be enclosed with your income tax return because they are used to determine the amount of your income and the deductions and tax credits you can claim for a taxation year.

RL-31-T. The RL-31 slip must be filed with Revenu Québec. The RL-31 slip must be filed by any person or partnership that is the owner of a residential complex and leases a dwelling for which rent was paid or was payable on December 31 of a given year.

If the credit is $800 or more, it will be paid in monthly instalments. If the credit is more than $240 but less than $800, it will be paid in quarterly instalments in July, October, January and April. If the credit is $240 or less, it will be paid as a lump sum in July.

Select Find (or the magnifying glass icon) from the menu. In the Find window, type solidarity and select Go. From the Québec Solidarity Tax Credit step, select Continue. On the next Québec Solidarity Tax Credit step, select Enter New Relevé 31.
