Founded in 1950, the Society of Women Engineer (SWE) is a non-profit educational service organization that empowers professionals and students to find success in engineering. SWE's mission is to provide a supportive environment for people of all genders to network and grow as engineers.

The Society of Women Engineers is the world's largest advocate and catalyst for change for women in engineering and technology.

The SWE Affinity Groups (AGs) mission is to bring together communities that share similar interests and backgrounds that support the diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEI&B) strategic goals of SWE. The SWE Affinity Groups framework includes Build Community, Professional Development, and Member Empowerment.

The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) is a not-for-profit educational and service organization that empowers women to succeed and advance in engineering and be recognized for their life-changing contributions as engineers and leaders.

When SWE was founded, less than one percent of working engineers were women. The general public still considered engineering to be a masculine profession unsuitable for women. Still, the women of SWE did not meet as a form of protest. They met purely to focus on developing their abilities as engineers.
