What does your health care card cover? The NWT Health Care Plan covers basic hospital and medical treatment. This means that anyone with a valid NWT Health Care Card can go to a hospital, health centre or medical clinic for treatment and will not have to pay for medically necessary health services.

A photo health card has an expiry date that is linked to your date of birth. If you are older than 15½ years, you will need to visit an ServiceOntario centre to renew your health card and have a photo taken.

If you have been living here for more than 3 months you are considered a resident and are eligible for NWT health care. You will need to apply for a NWT Health Care Card. To apply, pick up a form at a hospital, health clinic or health centre, or call 1-800-661-0830.
