Get Wi Motor Vehicle Dealer License 2021-2024

​People who sell their own vehicles when they are done with them do not need a Wisconsin dealer license. However, any person or business that sells more than five vehicles per year must have a dealer license issued by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT).

To qualify for a wholesale dealer license you must meet all of the following requirements: A permanent business location with an indoor office space. An outdoor vehicle display lot adjacent to the business office, unless all vehicles will be displayed outdoors. A $25,000 surety bond or irrevocable letter of credit.

You may have an IN Dealers License at your home address if the display area is not attached to the main living area. You must have an office with at least 100 square feet that must contain office furniture, lighting, heat, and a business telephone.
