Get Since 1984, Eta Sigma Gamma Has Published A Special Student Issue Of The Health Education Monograph

The mission of Eta Sigma Gamma is to promote the discipline by elevating the standards, ideals, competence, and ethics of students enrolled in professional preparation programs that subscribe to and align with the National Health Education Competencies.

(1) Active membership is limited to undergraduates who are enrolled in classes in Latin and/or Greek in the original languages. A student must meet the basic qualification of an attained grade of not less than “B” in courses in Latin and Greek, with completion of at least one semester or two quarters.

Students may apply for membership through an established collegiate chapter after the completion of two semesters or two quarters of college work and only after officially declaring a major or minor in health education related disciplines that are based on the national Health Education Competencies.

The oldest and largest first-year honor society, Phi Eta Sigma was founded at the University of Illinois on March 22, 1923. We now have more than 375 chapters throughout the United States and more than 1,000,000 inducted members.

The official insignia bears the official colors of Eta Sigma Gamma and consists of a triangle surrounded by three joined circles. The triangle is divided into four equilateral triangles. These four triangles contain the following symbols: a lamp representing learning, centered to representing the lamp of learning.

The official flower of the Honor Society is the trillium. Its three-pronged petals represent the three facets of service and advocacy, education, and research. The official insignia bears the official colors of Eta Sigma Gamma and consists of a triangle surrounded by three joined circles.

Eta Sigma Gamma (ΗΣΓ or ESG) is an honor society for health education. It was founded on August 14, 1967 at Ball State University "to elevate the standards, ideals, competence and ethics of professionally trained individuals in and for the health science discipline through teaching/education, service and research."
