Admission to our graduate program and funding are extremely competitive. Typically, we receive about 180 applications per year. From those, we usually admit about 20 students and usually fund about 10 of those entering students.

Your GPA is one of the first academic components of your application and undergrad transcript that will be reviewed as it is an indication of your long-term performance and your ability to succeed academically. Combined with your GRE/GMAT scores, these factors will be analyzed in depth.

Many grad programs call for a minimum 3.0 undergraduate GPA. However, some programs may admit you with a 2.5 or even 2.0 GPA. Online graduate programs with low GPA requirements allow you to continue your education even if you didn't do great in undergrad.

The Graduate School does not require entrance tests, but check to see whether your department requires you to submit GRE, GMAT, or subject test scores with your application. If so, have the testing agency send official scores to Virginia Tech Graduate School, code 5859.

Students must be academically prepared to attend Virginia Tech in the major they select. Although the review is holistic, taking into consideration several attributes, there are minimum requirements to participate in onsite admission, including: minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA (with no Ds or Fs and minimal Cs)

The minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) for admission is 3.0 or better, but that requirement may be waived depending on the applicant's professional experience and accomplishments as identified through a holistic review of your application.
