Your request for donation protects both the School of Medicine and your survivors and simplifies the procedure at the time of death. To receive the maximum benefit from a contribution, the School may transfer, at its discretion, a body to other teaching or research institutions within the State of Texas.

If your license says that you are an organ donor even though that is not what you selected on your driver's license application, the Texas Department of Public Safety says you can get this information corrected by emailing their License and Record Service for assistance.
Do any medical conditions exclude someone from becoming an organ donor? Yes, some conditions such as an actively spreading cancer or infection, or heart disease, may prevent a person from becoming a donor. But you can still sign up as an organ donor regardless of any preexisting or past medical conditions.
It is a legal authorization for donation and if you are over the age of 18, your lifetime decision to be a donor cannot be overturned by another person. This ensures your decision will be honored.
The body is not acceptable for anatomical study due to, for example, being extremely emaciated, being extremely obese, or having an extensive medical or surgical history. The body has been autopsied or mutilated or is decomposed.
- The doctor in charge of the patient's care typically has the final authority over organ donation decisions. - This authority is based on medical and ethical considerations, including the patient's wishes, medical suitability for donation, and the potential benefit to organ recipients.
