For CSH to count the hours must meet the following guidelines: All services are of a benevolent nature, unpaid, and not for personal gain. All services are supervised by an approved adult representative of the agency. Service does not interrupt a student's regularly scheduled school day.

Service Learning hours, as a graduation requirement, provide students with the opportunity to develop a long lasting sense of responsibility to society. Students, who wish to earn a Standard Diploma, must meet the graduation requirement of 40 service learning hours plus a written reflection.

Community service hours are not a requirement to graduate high school but can be helpful to students in discovering careers of interest, demonstrating leadership skills for resumes and scholarships, and most importantly, giving back to their community.

The student must give copies of the log sheets required to verify service hours for the Florida Academic Scholars Program Scholarship to his/her guidance counselor. All students who have earned a total of 250 Volunteer Service Hours will receive a silver cord to wear at commencement.

Volunteer and/or Community Service Hours are not specifically required for high school graduation; however, it is highly recommended for life experience. (It also looks good on that first job applicaton) Additionally Community Service hours are required for all four of the Florida Bright Futures Scholarships.

To graduate with a standard high school diploma, a student must earn 24 credits and achieve a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale, or its equivalent. the grade 10 Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT) in Reading and Mathematics or attain concordant scores on either the SAT or ACT tests.
